OTTAWA, ON – Carleton Member of Parliament Pierre Poilievre’s second fundraiser for the Children’s Aid Foundation of Ottawa raised $11,788 to help vulnerable kids play sports.

Almost 200 people gathered at the Saturday morning fundraiser at Saunders Farm in Munster. Thankfully the weather held out to allow families to enjoy fun activities like a bouncy castle, live music, and face painting. Olympian Sekou Kaba gave a motivational speech about how he became involved in sports, and dozens of volunteers helped serve a plentiful breakfast.

All of the money raised will be going to the Fair Shot Program, thanks to the donations of almost everything: the activities for kids, Saunders Farm as the venue, and the breakfast food. Poilievre organized a similar fundraiser in 2014 and raised approximately $8,900 for the Program.

The Fair Shot Program helps cover the costs for vulnerable kids to play sports. Sports equipment like skates, baseball bats, swimsuits, and hockey equipment can be expensive. Just the registration fees can often prevent kids from participating. The money raised at today’s fundraiser will allow approximately 36 kids to play sports by covering their equipment or registration costs.

“I am thrilled that we could raise almost $11,800 for the Children’s Aid Foundation of Ottawa’s Fair Shot Program. I am grateful to our many sponsors, donors, and volunteers who helped make this day a success, who have given approximately three dozen kids the opportunity to play sports that they would not have otherwise had.”

–       Pierre Poilievre, MP for Carleton

“The Fair Shot Program helps get vulnerable kids active in playing sports, whether it’s soccer, dancing, swimming, or hockey. These opportunities simply would not be available to these kids without the Fair Shot Program.”

–       Walter Noble, Executive Director, Children’s Aid Foundation of Ottawa

“The Fair Shot Program provides kids and their families the funding needed to participate in various sporting events. It might be a child living with a grandparent on a fixed income, or a child living with a foster parent. Seeing the kids’ faces as they receive a pair of skates or baseball equipment, or learn that they will be able to take dance lessons is incredible. I am so proud to help get these kids involved in sports by giving them equipment or having their registration fees covered thanks to the Fair Shot Program.”
