OTTAWA, ON – Today Carleton Member of Parliament Pierre Poilievre released the following reaction to Budget 2017:

“The Liberals are having a great time spending taxpayers’ money, and now they’re nickel and diming Canadians to pay for it.

“The 2017 budget continues to raise taxes on Canadians. They’re cancelling the Public Transit Tax Credit, raising taxes on charitable donations, and increasing taxes on alcohol and Uber. They’re also undertaking an ‘expenditure review’ to squeeze money from the public service – just like the Chretien-Martin Liberals did.

“At first the Liberals promised a balanced budget in 2019, now they’re predicting a $23.4 billion deficit that year. Canada’s debt will surpass $700 billion by 2019 – just the interest on that debt will be more than $30 billion. This money will have to be paid back in the form of higher taxes.

“There is still no transparency on how much the carbon tax will cost Canadians, and there is still no plan to return to a balanced budget.

“Conservatives will continue to hold the Liberals responsible for this irresponsible spending.”
