Manotick Resident Helps Bring Churchill Exhibit to Ottawa

Ottawa – The Parliamentary Library is currently showcasing original pages of the text used by Sir Winston Churchill in his December 1941 address to our Parliament and a local man, Mr. Ron Cohen, played a role in bringing this exhibit to the city. Cohen, the Founding President of the Sir Winston Churchill Society in Ottawa, is a Manotick resident who is passionate about Churchill and is the author of the definitive 3-volume Bibliography of Churchill’s writings. Cohen has also written many articles and spoken across this country and the U.S. on the man who led the fight against Hitler.

“All of us at the Sir Winston Churchill Society of Ottawa are deeply honoured to have this never-before-publicly-exhibited piece of history in Ottawa. We enthusiastically encourage the public to view the exhibit before it wraps up on June 27th,” said Cohen.

The exhibit presents a unique opportunity for the general public to celebrate the man who published 58 books, who fought, was captured and escaped during the Boer War, who helped defend the Free World against Nazism, and who awakened America and the world to the Soviet threat with his famous “Iron Curtain” speech at Fulton. A true friend of Canada, he even visited Ottawa six times – the most of any Canadian city.

“I had opportunity to visit the inspiring Churchill Exhibit when it first came to Ottawa,” said Pierre Poilievre, MP for Nepean-Carleton. “So much of what Churchill said and stood for stands true today and it is a privilege that Canada is the first place outside of Britain to showcase this material.”

All visitors to the Parliament of Canada will have the opportunity to view the exhibit by calling 613-996-0896 to reserve a spot on the special guided tour.
