VERNON, ON — On October 4, Hon. Pierre Poilievre, MP for Nepean-Carleton presented a donation to members of the Osgoode Township Historical Society & Museum for renovations to the Vernon Cenotaph. This comes from community donations previously received as part of the Fallen But Not Forgotten initiative that was started by the MP in 2012.
“It is a great honour to help rebuild the Vernon Cenotaph and pay tribute to local heroes who have fallen to defend our country,” said Poilievre. “I will continue to work with the Osgoode Township Historical Society and Museum to get this reconstruction project completed.”
The renovations to the Vernon Cenotaph are mostly carried out by volunteers with contributions from organizations such as the Fallen But Not Forgotten fund, the Osgoode Village Community Association, the Osgoode Legion, Permacon Ottawa, and Eastern Ontario Cemetery Memorials.
So far, the cement base and the relocation of the cenotaph have been completed. Further work that are in progress include installing new flagpoles, laying of interlock stones, and landscaping around the new site.
“The goal is to have the majority of the Cenotaph work completed in time for the Village’s annual Remembrance Day Service,” said Rob Brewster, Director of the Osgoode Village Community Association. The Cenotaph Rededication and Blessing will take place on Saturday, November 2nd at 10:45am.
