Barrhaven – On Saturday January 21, Pierre Poilievre, MP for Nepean-Carleton, hosted Chris Alexander, MP for Ajax-Pickering and former Ambassador to Afghanistan. About one hundred people came to Greenfields Pub in Barrhaven to listen to Alexander speak on his experience in his role as Ambassador.

“I am thankful that Chris took the time to speak to us about his time in Afghanistan,” said Poilievre. “As he does in his book, Chris was able to provide us with insight into a country where peace is not only possible, but attainable.”

“I have a very strong sense of the achievements in Afghanistan which are sometimes mundane in media terms, but make a difference to millions of ordinary lives” said Alexander. “On that kind of foundation, you can build the rule of law; you can build order and peace.”

Alexander’s book, “The Long Way Back: Afghanistan’s Quest for Peace,” outlines how peace is practically achievable. The book discusses the historical achievements and bitter disappointments encountered on the road to political stability, describing what it will take to see lasting peace in a region longing for stability.
