OTTAWA, ON – Today the Liberal government continued the carbon tax cover-up, voting against a motion that would have revealed the cost of the carbon tax to Canadians, families, and businesses.

“Canadians deserve to know what the Liberals’ carbon tax will cost them,” said Pierre Poilievre, Member of Parliament for Carleton. “Unfortunately, the Liberals are continuing to hide what the cost of the carbon tax will be. Canadians deserve to know how much this will add to their heat, hydro, and grocery bills. At first the Liberals implied they had no such information. Then when I discovered that the data did in fact exist, the government admitted they do have the data, but they don’t want to reveal what it says.”

“Despite the government’s vote today, Canadians can still demand that the government end the carbon tax cover-up,” said Poilievre. “I encourage everyone to sign petition e-910 and contact their Member of Parliament to demand that the government end the carbon tax cover-up.”

Poilievre will be lodging a complaint with the information commissioner over the improper use of the Access to Information Act to withhold the carbon tax documents.

Canadians can sign the petition at https://petitions.parl.gc.ca/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-910 between now and June 28, 2017.
